Historic Beer Series

ON TAP NOW
Jacob Ruppert Brewery Doppelbock
Very full-bodied brew. Dark amber/light brown full-bodied lager with slightly sweet yet ?still crisp malt notes. Perfect cold weather beer with a warm finish. ABV 7.3%

Did you know there were 30 breweries in Manhattan alone before Prohibition? ?To honor this legacy, we have created The New York Historic Beer Series. It is our tribute to the original NYC brewing pioneers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As our third offering of the series, we’re bringing back Jacob Ruppert Brewery DoppelBock.

Founded by Jacob Ruppert in 1867 in an area known as Yorkville, the Jacob Ruppert Brewery stood between 90th and 94th Sts. on Third Ave. Producers of the best-selling beer in the U.S. in the early 1900’s, Ruppert’s best selling beers were the Knickerbocker (light) Ruppiner (dark) and Bock beer. The Ruppert legacy in NYC is more than simply great beer. The baseball loving family eventually bought the NY Yankees and were responsible for bringing “The Sultan of Swat” Babe Ruth to town and building the renowned Yankee Stadium.

We produced our Doppelbock Beer in honor of the famous Ruppert Bock. Doppelbock, also known as “flüssiges brot (liquid bread)”, was originally created by monks to be consumed during fast for sustenance. So, in honor of our NYC craft beer forefathers, grab yourself a ?Jacob Ruppert Brewery Doppelbock and Prost like the beer drinkers that came before us!

Hell Gate Brewery Keller Lager

Well balanced dark golden lager with a clean malt taste, accompanied by brisk hoppiness and light eervescence. ABV 5.2%

Did you know there were 30 breweries in NYC alone before Prohibition? To honor this legacy, we have created The New York Historic Beer Series. It is our tribute to the original NYC brewing pioneers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As our second oering of the series, we’re bringing back Hell Gate Brewery Kellerbier. Kellerbier is an unltered and unpasteurized lager that dates back to the middle-ages. It is always with Naturtrüb (natural cloudiness and rich in vitamin from the yeast). Gerorge Ehret emigrated to New York in 1857 and quickly found employment in the thriving brewing industry. In 1866 George Ehret struck out on his own & founded Hell Gate Brewery on a site bounded by Second and Third avenues and 92nd and 93rd streets. Ehret’s plan was to create a lager like those of Munich and though hampered by the water available in New York he was able to produce a beer which closely resembled that style. Barrels of this beer rst rolled out of the brewery in March of 1867 and was immediately accepted by the harshest of critics – New York’s beer drinkers. Ehret’s hard work paid o, by 1877 Hell Gate Brewery was the number one beer producer in the country. So, in honor of our NYC craft beer forefathers, grab yourself a Hell Gate Brewery Keller Beer and Prost like the beer drinkers that came before us!

Geo. Ringler Helles Lager This traditional light golden lager carries a well-balanced, mild taste of biscuit and herbs topped with a light touch of hop bitterness and sparkling effervescence. ABV 5.2%

Did you know there were 30 breweries in NYC alone before Prohibition? To honor this legacy, we have created The New York Historic Beer Series. It is our personal tribute to the original NYC brewing pioneers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. To kick-off the series we’re bringing back George Ringler Helles Lager, the staple brew of George Ringler & Co. Brewers, founded in 1872. Geo. Ringler eventually became the 3rd largest Brewery in NYC. Due to the massive influx of German immigrants, lager became the universal beer of the boroughs in the late 1800’s. So, in honor of our NYC craft beer forefathers, grab yourself a Geo. Ringler Helles Lager and Prost like the beer drinkers that came before us!
