Did you know there were 30 breweries in Manhattan alone before Prohibition? ?To honor this legacy, we have created The New York Historic Beer Series. It is our tribute to the original NYC brewing pioneers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As our third offering of the series, we’re bringing back Jacob Ruppert Brewery DoppelBock.
Founded by Jacob Ruppert in 1867 in an area known as Yorkville, the Jacob Ruppert Brewery stood between 90th and 94th Sts. on Third Ave. Producers of the best-selling beer in the U.S. in the early 1900’s, Ruppert’s best selling beers were the Knickerbocker (light) Ruppiner (dark) and Bock beer. The Ruppert legacy in NYC is more than simply great beer. The baseball loving family eventually bought the NY Yankees and were responsible for bringing “The Sultan of Swat” Babe Ruth to town and building the renowned Yankee Stadium.
We produced our Doppelbock Beer in honor of the famous Ruppert Bock. Doppelbock, also known as “flüssiges brot (liquid bread)”, was originally created by monks to be consumed during fast for sustenance. So, in honor of our NYC craft beer forefathers, grab yourself a ?Jacob Ruppert Brewery Doppelbock and Prost like the beer drinkers that came before us!
